Cookie Money Due Monday, Feb. 22

INDIVIDUAL COOKIE SALE money is due at our Next Troop meeting - Monday, Feb. 22. Girls should collect CASH.
Checks MAY BE WRITTEN to the parent of the Brownie,
but then that Brownie Mom should write just ONE check for all the checks collected to the TROOP -- "GSEM Troop #72082"
Unfortunately, any checks that bounce mean less money for the Brownies to do something fun at the end of the year.

NOTE: Our next meeting MAY be a field trip location. If that is the case, we will send an e-mail with more details. The Troop may be touring the bakery at BJS to complete their Baking Try-It Badge.
Any mom with questions on cookie collections, should contact Cookie Mom Jen or any of us Troop leaders.
Our Brownie Troop has done a FABULOUS job selling cookies. We sold out of all of our cookies from BOTH booth sales - almost 600 boxes. And, individually, 14 girls sold more than 1150 boxes of cookies.
The 16 Brownies each earned a Saleswoman Try-It for their efforts. The badges are on order. The top 3 individual sellers will also receive patches, which are on order.

The girls have their second and final cookie booth sale at Stop and Shop on old Connecticut path (across from the YMCA) this Sunday Feb. 7th
Please have the girls wear their cookie t-shirts and their vests.

Wednesday, Jan. 20 is Last Day to Sell Cookies

Wednesday, Jan. 20 is the last day to sell Girl Scout cookies to family, friends, & neighbors. Forms must be turned into Cookie Mom Jennifer Nalon (Maddie's mom) on Wednesday.
If your Brownie's order form is not turned into the Cookie mom, your daughter may not be eligible for her cookie prizes, including her patch for the back of her vest.
Brownies must sell a minimum of 15 boxes of cookies to qualify for the patch.

The Troop earns 60 cents for each box of cookies sold. We use this money for activities, like the Museum of Science Sleepover & rollerskating, and for supplies for arts & crafts and other projects at meetings.
The Troop's first Cookie Booth sale will be Monday, Jan. 25 at Stop & Shop (behind Lowe's).

Meeting Summary: Penny Power and Learning About Money

At Monday's meeting, the Brownies began work on the Penny Power Try-It badge.
Before starting work on the badge, the new girls who joined the Troop, this year, were presented with their World Trefoil Pin.
Presented with the pin were: Ayushi, Alyssa, Erin, Tovah, Sagan, & Sasha.
Ask your daughter to tell you some of the symbolism behind the pin.
(Hint: ask her about the sun, sky & stars)
As the Troop began working on the Penny Power Try-It, we talked about money.
What does money look like?
Why there are different designs for coins and bills?
We talked about counterfeit money.
We discussed who is pictured on money.
Then, we had a discussion about earning money. We talked about our cookie sale.
As a Troop of 16 Brownies, the girls sold about 700 boxes.
At the two cookie booth sales, they sold about another 600 boxes of cookies.
We did a little math too. The girls figured out at $4 a box how much money was collected. Then, they tried to figure out how much money the Troop earned, if the Troop keeps 60 cents for each box sold.
After a discussion of cookie sales in the Brownie Circle, we then began some fun money/finance activities as part of the Try-It requirements.
The Brownies played a game similar to one found on the game show The Price is Right.
Two objects were placed in front of them and the Brownies guessed which item was more expensive.
(Surprisingly, a majority of the Troop thought a Magic Treehouse paperback book cost more than a hardcover book.) We explained that typically hard cover books cost more money.
The Brownies did better when it came to a battle between Barbie and a Webkinz (Barbie costs less.)
The Brownies also thought that a can of Progresso Soup cost more than a box of cereal.
Afterwards, groups of 3 0r 4 girls were shown an object (Game of Clue Jr., a Gymboree top, a pair of kids shoes, a video game cartridge, etc..) and had to try to guess what it cost.
The girls will finish work on the Penny Power Try-It at the next meeting.

In the final Brownie Circle of the meeting, we reminded the girls of the importance of wearing their vest and Brownie uniform to Thursday's field trip to the Girl Scout Museum and about an optional activity -- Alice in Wonderland ballet and post-performance tea party.
Then the girls did the Friendship Squeeze and Girl Scout Out.

THIS WEEK: Field Trip, Ballet & Cookies

Hello Brownie Parents,
Below are a few reminders for upcoming events & important dates for THIS WEEK.
As a Troop, we talked about these with the girls during Brownie Circle time, but we realize that not all information comes home...
1) Just a reminder the Brownie Troop is doing a Field Trip to the Girl Scout Museum in Waltham on Thursday. The 3 Troop leaders and Sagan's and Ayushi's moms are driving. Unless you hear otherwise from your driver, Brownies are meeting at the parking lot of our typical meeting site at 1:30 p.m. The tour starts at 2:30 p.m. and will last about an hour.
Please have your daughter where her Brownie vest. Also as this is an official Brownie activity, please have her wear a white or cream top and brown pants or skirt. A brown-colored dress is fine, as is a brown top.If you have any questions, please contact any of the leaders.

2) Last week, the Brownies worked on the requirements for the Dancercise Try-It. Some of the girls inquired about seeing a LIVE ballet. Dance Prism, a Boston-area professional ballet company, is offering Girl Scouts an opportunity to experience a special afternoon of ballet plus a post-performance tea party at a discounted ticket price. The Alice in Wonderland Ballet takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. There is a special pre-show talk/tour at 1:30 p.m. for Scouts. And a post-performance tea party with pastries and the chance to meet some of the dancers. Cost is $12 for Scouts and $18 for adults. (family members may attend at this group rate too.)
***The good news is that a dozen Brownies from another Troop will be joining us at the ballet, so we have the minimum needed for the Scout discount.
*** The deadline to sign up is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24.
Please E-mail me ASAP if you and your daughter would like to attend the ballet.
Please bring payment with your child to Thursday's field trip.

3) Individual Girl Scout Cookie Money, if it has not been turned in, is due this week. Thursday's Field Trip is a good day to turn it in.

Cookie Payments Due This week!

IF you have yet to hand in your money please know that the deadline is quickly approaching. This Monday we are having our next Troop meeting - that would be a good opportunity to bring the money to the meeting during drop off or pick up.
You could also give the money to one of the leaders on Thursday afternoon, when we return from the Waltham Girl Scout Museum Field Trip.
Please remember that ONE check made out for the full amount is to be handed in.
Cash in the exact amount is also OK.

Girls Did A Great Job Selling Cookies

The Girls who participated in today's Cookie Booth sale at Stop & Shop did a great job selling. Participating were: Alyssa, Becky, Bella, Emily D., Erin, Jessica, Kelly, Madison, Sagan, Sarah, Sydney, Talia, and Tovah.

I'm awaiting a final count on how many boxes were sold. We sold 288 boxes at the first cookie booth sale. This was the final booth sale for season for our Brownie Troop. Thanks to all the parents who helped out too!!!

Cookie Payment Info!

The cookies that your daughter sold on the large order (initial order) sheet are at my house already. Please see the post below -- regarding the pick up schedule for said cookies.

Keep in mind -
a) NO money is due when you pick up the boxes of cookies from me.

b) Payment for the cookies must be given to Pam, Susan or myself no later than Monday March 30th.
FYI - we have a meeting on March 23rd, that might be a good day to think about bringing payment for the cookies.

c) Payment to the Troop MUST be:
ONE single check from your account (or a money order), made out to
GSEM Troop 72082 for the grand total of boxes sold.
For example, 53 boxes sold, means 53 x $4 = $212

COOKIE PICK UP!

The Girl Scout cookies for both troops have arrived and are currently in my house waiting for me to sort them.
1. Given that I am sorting cookie orders for two troops (26 girls) I ask that IF you can wait until Friday or the weekend to pick up your order that you do that. Thank you.
2. NO money is due when you come to pick up your cookies.

That being said -
You can come pick up your daughters cookie order:
Friday before 12 and then again between 3 &6, Saturday between 3 and 5 and most/all of Sunday.
**In order to ensure that I am home please do let me know, in general, when you are planning on coming. **

The girls began the Cookie Booth with 288 individual boxes of cookies, and at 7 pm ALL of the boxes had been sold!!!!
THIS is a sign that we have a particularly talented and eager group of girls selling cookies.

We have two cookie booth sales lined up for the troop - both at the Old Connecticut Path Stop & Shop across from the YMCA.
The girls will be divided into two shifts (90 minutes each).
All girls who participate will get credit for a portion of the cookie sales which will go toward their prize level.

Sale Dates:
December 22nd - January 1st. May sell ONLY to family and friends who you wouldn’t ‘normally’ see during Jan 2nd through 16th. i.e. out of town relatives.
January 2nd - January 16th. During this time your daughter may sell to family, friends, neighbors, team mates, teachers, your coworkers etc...
* this time period is known by the Girl Scouts as the “Initial Order”


When you sell in person remember:
* Always have adult supervision. Be safe!
* One box of cookies is $4
* Money is due upon DELIVERY, not at time of sale
* Wear your vest over your jacket to show that you are a Girl Scout - and proud of it!
* Our troop earns $.60 per box sold - to help pay for field trips and activities.
* ALL cookies are Kosher/Dairy and trans fat free.
* Self confidence is developed as girls practice selling cookies to familiar adults.
* There is proven success! 77% of the sales in GSEM (Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass.) are from the Initial Order.
* Customers like to support ‘their’ Girl Scout.
* IF a customer can’t buy cookies because of diet restrictions suggest that they buy a box or two to donate to our Soldiers oversees. On Feb. 28th there will be a Donation Celebration at Hanscom AFB.

Your family is already involved in many community groups, bring your order card along and invite your friends, coaches, teachers, church/temple members to support your sale of cookies.


Selling cookies at work: (it is your CHOICE to do, or not do, this)
IF you choose to, please have your daughter participate in one or more of the following:

1) Write a letter to the business introducing herself
2) Attach a photo and note to the order card
3) Include thank you notes when delivery is made
4) Deliver the cookies in person, if possible

Why sell Girl Scout Cookies?

You can earn the 2009 Cookie Activity Pin to wear on your vest.
Earn Cookie recognitions - patch, bracelet kit, plush pony, t shirt and more!
Troop Award: When every girl in the troop sells at least 12 boxes of cookies the troop will earn a special Troop Journal scrapbook.
“Cookie Credits” The more cookies you sell the more credits you earn.
Earn $.05 per box sold. Use the Cookie Credits for summer camp programs,
GSEM program, use at the GS store in Waltham or Middleboro, or donate your credits to the troop. Our Troop will earn $.60 for every box of cookies you sell.

Important Dates to Know About:

January 16th: This is the final day of the “Initial Order” it is also the Friday that starts MLK weekend. IF you are out of town for the holiday weekend, please deliver the order card to me ON the 16th. IF you are not traveling you may deliver the card to me on Saturday the 17th or Sunday the 18th. You can leave the forms in my mailbox - 15 Woodward Rd. (off Beacon St., near Rt. 30) * NO money is due on the 16th*

February 10th: Cookies arrive from bakery. You may pick up your order from my house during the remainder of that week.

March 19th: Final payment due. By now you will have delivered your cookies and your customers have paid for their order. Payment of choice from customers is cash, but you may accept personal checks - made out to YOU - at your discretion.

Please write out one check, made out to GSEM Troop 72082, for the grand total of cookie money due. Ex. 20 boxes sold x $4.00 = $80 owed to the troop.

Troop Meeting #6 Summary

During today's meeting, after snack and celebrating Sydney's 8th birthday, the troop went into its Brownie Circle and shared what they learned while working on the Grandma & Me patch project.
The girls were having so much fun sharing their information and objects that we did not have time to work on the time capsule project, which completes the All in the Family Try-It.
We will finish that Try-it project in January.
In all, 14 girls shared information on their grandmothers and will earn the Grandma & Me special participation patch (back of the vest).
The patches will be distributed at our next meeting -- which will be OFFSITE at Uno's on Route 9E on Monday, Dec. 22 at an earlier start time of 4 p.m.
A parent must sign a permission slip for your daughter to participate in the kitchen tour and pizza party that day. If you did not sign a permission slip for your daughter Monday, please contact a leader to do so.
The Troop is picking up the tab for the special outing.
NOTE: At our next meeting, information will be distributed about the annual Cookie Sale.
At the end of Monday's meeting, the girls participated in a Friendship Squeeze and Circle Time.
Afterwards, those who sold magazines, candy & nuts this fall were given their participation patches (7 girls earned one patch and one girl earned all 4 patches, several earned 2 & 3 patches) and prizes (necklaces and stuffed bear with glow-in-the-dark t-shirts or both).

I picked up the magazine, candy, & nut sales' prizes and patches (for back of the Brownie vest) this afternoon in Waltham at the Girl Scout Regional office.The prizes & patches will be distributed at the END of the meeting on Monday. Seven of the 16 girls in our troop participated and the troop earned just over $130. Every girl, who participated in the fundraiser, earned either a patch and/or a prize. Several girls earned multiple patches & prizes.

Cookie Mom In Training Wanted

Hi Folks-

Girl Scout cookie selling season is quickly approaching. We have 2 more meetings before Dec. break (Monday the 8th at St. Andrew's and a holiday party on the 22nd- location TBD). At the party, we will be giving out information about the cookie sale. It officially does not start until after New Years, but girls are permitted to sell to any relatives over vacation.

Shawn Granoff has acted as "Cookie Mom" for our troop last year in addition to being "Cookie Mom" for her daughter's Junior troop. This has a big task for her to handle both troops (and a crowed situation in her living room!). Generally, it is recommended that a parent other than a troop leader act as "Cookie Mom." Shawn has agreed to continue this year, but is asking for someone to step up and shadow her this year in anticipation of taking over the job next year. The task involves going to a one short training, entering all the orders in to a girl scout data base, picking up the cookies from a site in Framingham ( with the help of other parents who have minivans), sorting the cookies in your home and setting specific times for families to pick up the cookies, entering the checks received in the data base and calling stop and shop to set up a time for a booth sale. If you have specific questions you can call Shawn. She will be attending a cookie training tonight at 7 pm at Plymouth church. If you think you might be interested, you are welcome to attend tonight. If you are not free tonight, you can still volunteer; Shawn will fill you in and you can attend the training next year.
