Three Brownies from our Troop earned the California Try-It - Self Defense.
Talia, Erin, & Bella attended an event sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council on Saturday, March 20 at McCoy's Karate in Auburn.
The trio spent 90 minutes learning self-defense moves, how to deal with bullies, and a cat claw move to defend themselves.
The Try-its are on order from the Northern California Girl Scout Council and are expected to arrive in April.
Leader Susan will distribute when they arrive.

Friday is Deadline to Register for Optional Frog Overnight Program
This is an optional event for Brownie & moms.

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts and Broad Meadow Brook in Worcester is offering a special overnight program for Brownie Scouts starting on Friday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 10.
Troops and Individual Scouts may register, but and individual Scout must have an adult in attendance at all times.
Program: Did you know that frogs absorb water through their skin so they don't need to drink? Or that some frogs freeze solid in winter? Bring your sense of adventure for an indoor program all about FROGS, an after-dark hike on the wildlife sanctuary, and then cozy up to sleep indoors in our visitor center.

Registration fee is $16 per Scout and $16 per adult.
Registration will close when 40 people are registered or on March 12.

Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village on Saturday, March 27
Yesterday at our Brownie meeting several of the girls expressed an interest in the Troop attending Old Sturbridge Village. We nixed the idea ONLY because OSV is hosting Girl Scout Day on Saturday, March 27.
So, we wanted to make Parents aware of Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village. This is an OPTIONAL event.
Last year, more than 1,800 scouts and their families attended, including Troop 72082 members Becky, Bella, Sarah, & Talia.
Admission is at a HUGE discount.
There is also the OPTION of signing up for additional FEE-based workshops to earn additional patches.
Please let me know if you register your daughter.
Registration begins tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 24 at osv.org
Additional information is below.
* Scouts are asked to wear uniforms.
* Brownies will receive an activity sheet to complete during their OSV visit. Once completed, Scouts go to the Gift Shop to receive an OSV participation patch, for the back of their vest.

Learn about how minority women paved a way for themselves and those after them. Meet Molly Geet, a Native American Doctress; Mumbet, a slave who fought for her freedom in the Massachusetts court system and won; and Mary Culligan, an Irish Immigrant and hired-hand.
Register online starting Feb. 24.
Also, inspired by Women's History Month, girls can explore the everyday lives of girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Visit the animals and the costumed Villagers throughout the Countryside and the Center Village.
Consider making a quick craft in the Hands-on Crafts Center; $5-10 per activity - first come, first served; some age and safety restrictions apply.
Sign up starting Feb. 24 to participate in 50-minute hands-on Studios.
These activities are designed to meet Brownies Try-Its and Junior Girl Scout Badge requirements.

Registration deadline: Feb. 15 or when 80 Brownies are registered

I just registered my daughter this evening. I could take up to 2 other Brownies in my car. (Please e-mail me, if interested & I can explain the registration process and how you prepay with a credit card.)

I have room in my car for one more girl, but any Brownie from our Troop may register and attend with an adult chaperone.
Deadline to register is Feb. 19 or when 40 girls have registered for this special program.

Two Brownies attend Girl Scout Night at the Worcester Sharks
Two Brownies from Troop 2082 participated in Girl Scout Night at the Worcester Sharks (AHL Hockey team), sponsored by the Central & Western Massachusetts Girl Scout Council. Alyssa & Bella were able to skate on the DCU Center ice before the game. They also got to meet Tiffany Thornton, who stars in Sonny With A Chance on the Disney Channel. Afterwards, the watched the Worcester Sharks lose 4-0 to their arch-rival the Hartford Wolf Pack. Both Brownies received a special patch for the back of their vest by participating in yesterday's optional event. The two Brownies also completed a couple of requirements for the Ice Skating Try-It.

Two Brownies Earn Swim Safety Patch
Talia & Bella participated in a Swim Safety program for Brownies at the Worcester YWCA sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council.The two Brownies from our Troop along with 38 other Brownies, dove into 11 feet water, practiced swim techniques, learn to push off the wall, practiced how to dive, and learned a few synchronized swimming techniques.
The Brownies also watched a third grader and a team of swimmers perform synchronized swimming routines, before enjoying free swim time.
The girls, who completed the program, received a participation patch.

Girl Scout Night with the Sharks on Saturday, Nov. 14
Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a Girl Scout Night at the Sharks at the DCU Center on Saturday, Nov. 14 for Scouts of all levels from Daisy through Ambassador, including Brownies.
This would be an optional event for Brownies in Troop 72082. I offer it up as an activity as at least a half dozen of the girls in our Troop expressed an interest in earning Ice Skating Try-It.
About the event: There is a pre-game skate from 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Join the fun planned for Girl Scouts as we root on the Worcester Sharks on this special Girl Scout night!
Bring your skates and participate in the pregame skate and Hockey 101 before the game … for girls, their troops and their families!
Additional activities also include:
* Meet Finz the mascot
* Participate in hands-on activities like a touch-table to try out some of the hockey equipment and a shoot-out net to try your hand at a few shots!
* Troops are also encouraged to participate in the banner contest.
* Every Troop will be recognized on the SharksVision Scoreboard.
* Special Sharks participation patch (for back of the vest) for each ticket purchased!

If your daughter is interested in attending, please let one of the leaders know ASAP.
Cost is $10.50 per Scout and $10.50 per adult chaperone/troop leader and additional family members.

Two Brownies Earn Birds Try-It With Central Massachusetts Scouts
Two Brownies from our Troop attended an optional Try-It workshop in Worcester at the Broadmoor Sanctuary in conjunction with the Central Massachusetts Girl Scouts and the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Talia and Bella both earned the Central & Western Massachusetts' exclusive "BIRDS" Try-It this past Saturday.
The girls went on a nature hike to listen for and spot birds. They learned to identify and draw a bird like John Audubon. They learned about peaks and claws of different types of birds, and they made a bird feeder. The girls also learned about the early risin' birds and how to make their sounds.

Exclusive Central Mass Medieval Maidens Try-it Offered on May 16
Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is hosting a Try-it Workshop for its Council exclusive Medieval Maidens on Saturday, May 16 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester.
About the Event: The Middle Ages was an era of knights, fair ladies, princesses and castles. Brownies will learn about medieval times beyond the tales of adventure and make-believe and find out about the lives of girls and women during this time in history. They'll take a tour, do a craft, and have fun earning Central Massachusetts' Council's Own "Medieval Maidens" Try-It (included in price).
This is OPTIONAL event for members of Brownie Troop 2082. There is no leader attending, at this time. So, an adult needs to provide transportation and attend the event with their daughter. There is a FEE for the Adult with this event.

The cost is $ 17 per Brownie and $8 per adult.

About the Event: The Middle Ages was an era of knights, fair ladies, princesses and castles. Brownies will learn about medieval times beyond the tales of adventure and make-believe and find out about the lives of girls and women during this time in history. They'll take a tour, do a craft, and have fun earning Central Massachusetts' Council's Own "Medieval Maidens" Try-It (included in price).
This is OPTIONAL event for members of Brownie Troop 2082. There is no leader attending, at this time. So, an adult needs to provide transportation and attend the event with their daughter. There is a FEE for the Adult with this event.

The cost is $ 17 per Brownie and $8 per adult.

Earn Exclusive "For the Birds" Try-It at April 4th Worcester Workshop
Each Girl Scout Council can create its own special Try-It. The Central & Western Massachusetts Council has created a "Birds' Try-it badge for Brownies.
On Saturday April 4, at the Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary in Worcester from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Brownies can register to earn the exclusive Try-It.
At the workshop, Brownies will learn about the fascinating world of birds. They will explore beak adaptations, feathers, nests, bird calls and more.
The cost of the Try-it Badge is not included in the workshop and will need to be purchased by one of the troop's leaders at the Worcester Girl Scout store.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Troop 2082. A leader (Susan Petroni) is attending, so you may drop off your child in Worcester and pick her up. But you will need to provide your own transportation from Framingham to Worcester and back.
Parents may register their daughter for the special workshop with the Mass Audubon Society directly by calling MAS Broad Meadow Brook at 508-753-6087.
The cost to attend is $8 per Brownie. Parents/leaders are free.
The maximum number of girls who can participate is 30 Brownies. Registration will close once 30 girls have signed-up or by March 25.

Optional Try-It Program During April Vacation Week
Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a special Earth is Your Home Try-It Brownie program on Wednesday, April 22 (School Vacation Week) at Camp Green Eyrie in Harvard from 10 a.m. to noon.
Program info: My home is your home. How can we make it a better place? Earn the Earth is Our Home Try-It at this fun Earth Day workshop (included). Brownies will learn how to make environmentally-friendly products and make a craft using recycled materials. And how about cooking S'mores without a fire? It's not easy being green, but we'll "try-it"! Brownies and adults are welcome to stay after the program and explore the camp on your own.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Brownie Troop 2082.
At this time, no Troop 2082 leader is attending, but if that changes we will let you know.
For that reason, a parent/guardian must attend with their daughter. Siblings are not allowed.

Saturday, March 28: Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village
Starting Monday, Feb. 2, Brownies can register for an optional event offered by the Central & Western Massachusetts Girl Scout Council -- Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village on Saturday, March 28!

This is an optional event for Brownies in Troop 72082.
The 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. event is open to Girl Scouts in grades K-12.
This event is designed for all Girl Scouts that are interested in learning more about early 19th century American history. Inspired by Women’s History Month, Girl Scout Day will explore the everyday lives of early New England girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Meet two very inspirational and dynamic women, Lydia Maria Child and Mary Gove. In their own ways, both motivated positive changes in American women’s lives.
Cost includes MOST Village activities and an Old Sturbridge Village participation patch (for the back of the vest.)
Cost: $ 7 per person
The maximum number of attendees is 200.
Registration will end once 200 is reached.
Please check with a TROOP LEADER to see if one is attending. If no leader is attending, you must attend with your child as this will not be a drop-off and pick-up event.
NOTE: Brownies may also pre-register online for the Museum Education Girl Scout Hands-on Studios for an additional $3 per girl. These 50-minute activities have been designed to meet Brownies Try-Its requirements.
