Our Brownie Troop and Daisy Troop 72105 Earn Doll Collector Try-It

At our last Brownie Meeting, we were joined by a half dozen Daisy Scouts from Troop 72105. We started the meeting with one of the Daisy Scouts reading the Girl Scout Promise. Then, each of the girls from both Troops went around the table to read a line from the Girl Scout Law.
The two Troops joined for a combined meeting to meet the requirements for bridging and to also earn the out-of-state Doll Collector Try-It.
The meeting was billed as a Scout & Doll Tea Party. Each Daisy & Brownie Scout brought either a doll or an action figure to the meeting. Many of the girls brought their American Girl dolls.
The girls munched on Daisy Go Round cookies and grapes and drank juice, provided by the Daisy Scouts. Each Scout talked about their doll for about a minute.
Afterwards, the leaders talked to the two Troops about the different type of dolls - antique, collectible, series, etc. Then, one of the moms of the Brownies showed the two Troops dolls she collected as a child, many were from various countries around the world.
Post a Q&A discussion, the girls were listened to one of the Brownie leaders read the story The Surprise Doll.
Also during the meeting, the Brownies showed the daisy Scouts their vests and talked about what pins and patches they have earned. Each Brownies told the Daisy Scouts either their favorite Try-It or participation patch they earned. There was a short Q&A afterwards.
To end the meeting, the Brownies taught the Daisy Scouts the Brownie Smile Song and sang that song and Make New Friends in a Brownie Circle. The Brownies then taught the Daisy Troop the Friendship Squeeze and how to do Girl Scout Out!

MEETING SUMMARY: Troop Votes on Try-its to Complete in Their Final Brownie Year

Troop 2082 met at its new location yesterday - Plymouth House Church.
The 15 Brownies started the meeting working on a Girl Scout Word Search.
After snack, the girls gathered in a Brownie Circle.
Madison led the group in the Girl Scout Law.
Becky led the Troop in a reading of the Girl Scout Promise.
Once inside the Circle we talked about upcoming events the Brownies could attend -- including a Math & Computer Workshop and the annual Roller Skating night. We also talked about the fact that this will be the girls last year as a Brownie. (If they continue with Scouting as 4th graders they will be Junior Scouts.) Alyssa showed the Troop her mom's Junior Girl Scout handbook and showed them some of the badges they could earn. Junior badges are shaped in a circle, compared to Brownie Try-Its which are shaped as a triangle.
Next, the leaders went over a list of 15 possible Try-Its the girls could work on in their final year. They were instructed to listen to a brief description of each, and then put an X next to the Try-its they were interested in. After listening to all the description, each Brownie then voted on the 3 they most wished to do. The Troop were told that the top 3 Try-Its voted on my the 15 girls would be completed in their final year - the others COULD be completed - but no promises made.
The Try-Its voted on were:
1) Theatre - 3 possible Try-Its
2) Healthy Habits
3) Baking
4) Art to Wear or Fashion
5) Science Wonders
6) Earth & Sky or Space Explorer
7) Caring & Sharing
8) Brownie Scouts Around the World
9) Ponies & Horses - 3 possible Try-Its
10) Hobbies
11) Stitch It Together
12) Watching Wildlife
13) Bicycling
14) Ice Skating
15) Computers - Point, Click & Go

After the Votes were tallies, the top votegetters were:

* Baking - 9 votes
* Stitch It Together - 8 votes
* Let's Pretend - 6 votes

Tied with 5 votes -- both Horses & Ice Skating

While the votes were being tabulated, the Brownies made an Poem based on the letters B-R-O-W-N-I-E.
The girls gathered into a Brownie Circle again, and they tried to guess based on the poem, who was the author. It was a great way to get to know each girl as an individual.
The girls then did a Friendship squeeze, started by Emily D.
Then, the finished the meeting playing the Girl Scout Out game.
As the Brownies left the meeting, each was given their Early Bird registration patch. (The patch should go on the BACK of their vest).

Working on Individual Try-It Badges: Some of the Brownies in out Troop have been attending optional Council sponsored events and earning individual Try-It badges. Others will be attending camp this summer and earning individual Try-It badges.
At our last meeting the girls split into 2 groups and reviewed the book of Try-It badges.
As a Brownie there are more than 60 Try-Its they can earn.
We will never work on all 60+ so they girls voted on a Try-It they wish to earn in their final year (Third grade Brownies) – Let’s Pretend.
We realize that each girl has her own interests and they were asked to pick out a Try-It badge they would like to earn before they complete Brownies. THIS IS OPTIONAL but we can provide you with the information and requirements for your daughters’ badge along with a worksheet to complete this summer. At a meeting in the fall, the girls can present their projects and will be awarded their individual Try-It.

Old Sturbridge Village is hosting a Girl Scout Day on Saturday, March 28. Registration began online on Monday, by yesterday half the badge, try-it programs and workshops were already sold out.
Although we sent a notice home with all the Brownies at the last meeting, we are strongly encouraging any Brownie who wishes to attend to pre-register ASAP so the event and all the programs do not sell out. We wouldn't be surprised if the entire event is not sold out by school vacation break.
Every Brownie registered will receive an OSV participation patch for the back of their vest.
This once-a-year Old Sturbridge Village event is designed for all Girl Scouts who are interested in learning more about early 19th-century American history. Inspired by Women's History Month, this event will explore the everyday lives of New England girls and women through demonstrations and performances.
The cost to attend is $7 per Brownie and $7 per parent.
Siblings (and other family members) may attend at the same rate, but pre-registration is required!
Siblings can only attend age-appropriate workshops if they are pre-registered as well!
Most workshops and Try-it badge workshops for Brownies are an additional $3 per person. There is no fee for a parent or chaperone to watch a badge or fun workshop.
A list of all the workshops is provided below as well as the link to register your child. A credit card is required.
PLEASE keep in mind when registering the age of your daughter -- some activities are for children ages 5-7 and some for children age 8-9 and others for age 10+.
OSV is NOT issue refunds if you register for the wrong class.
***
This is NOT a drop off and pick up event.
Leader Susan Petroni is attending with Bella. (Other leaders may also be attending and we will update you with their status).
FYI -- I signed Bella up today for the afternoon Brownie Studio Workshop to earn the Wave the Flag Try-It badge.
