Our Brownie Troop and Daisy Troop 72105 Earn Doll Collector Try-It

At our last Brownie Meeting, we were joined by a half dozen Daisy Scouts from Troop 72105. We started the meeting with one of the Daisy Scouts reading the Girl Scout Promise. Then, each of the girls from both Troops went around the table to read a line from the Girl Scout Law.
The two Troops joined for a combined meeting to meet the requirements for bridging and to also earn the out-of-state Doll Collector Try-It.
The meeting was billed as a Scout & Doll Tea Party. Each Daisy & Brownie Scout brought either a doll or an action figure to the meeting. Many of the girls brought their American Girl dolls.
The girls munched on Daisy Go Round cookies and grapes and drank juice, provided by the Daisy Scouts. Each Scout talked about their doll for about a minute.
Afterwards, the leaders talked to the two Troops about the different type of dolls - antique, collectible, series, etc. Then, one of the moms of the Brownies showed the two Troops dolls she collected as a child, many were from various countries around the world.
Post a Q&A discussion, the girls were listened to one of the Brownie leaders read the story The Surprise Doll.
Also during the meeting, the Brownies showed the daisy Scouts their vests and talked about what pins and patches they have earned. Each Brownies told the Daisy Scouts either their favorite Try-It or participation patch they earned. There was a short Q&A afterwards.
To end the meeting, the Brownies taught the Daisy Scouts the Brownie Smile Song and sang that song and Make New Friends in a Brownie Circle. The Brownies then taught the Daisy Troop the Friendship Squeeze and how to do Girl Scout Out!

Brownies to Cruise Aboard the Spirit of Boston on Sunday, June 13

" ... Won't ya let me take you on a sea cruise? ..."

Brownie Troop 72082 is going on an Afternoon Luncheon Cruise
on the Spirit of Boston on Sunday, June 13.
Boarding at 11:30 a.m. Spirit leaves harbor at noon. Returns at 2 p.m.

The Brownies voted a cruise of Boston harbor the #2 activity they wanted to do before they bridge to Junior Scouts.

The cost of the cruise is $35 per person.
The Troop is paying $20 for each Scout, because of the terrific cookie selling effort by the Troop.

*** Each Brownie, who cruises, ONLY pays $15.

We are opening this event up to moms, if they wish to attend.
MOMS ARE OPTIONAL.
Any mom, who wishes to attend, needs to pay $35 per person.

The Spirit of Boston will set aside a part of the dining room for our Troop. The chef will be preparing child-friendly fare for the Troop, in addition to its traditional luncheon buffet.

We are putting a deposit of $175 down this week on the cruise. We need a minimum of 20 people to attend to get this special rate!
Because of that, we NEED a head count as soon as possible!

Brownie Meeting This Afternoon

Just a quick rememder that we have a regular Brownie meeting today.

Brownie Meeting Monday, March 22

Just a reminder we have a Brownie meeting on Monday, March 22 at 4:15 p.m.

***For the Brownies, who have been working on their ice Skating Try-It badge individually, please bring your project work. We will display it during snack time.

***For Brownies who are attending the Globetrotters event on March 28th we have the tickets and will be distributing them, if payment has been made. (Tickets were $18.75 each). If you have questions, e-mail leader Susan.

On Monday, the Troop will be working on an arts & craft project as part of the Art to Wear Try-It badge.

Meeting Summary: Sewing a Book & Grocery Shopping on World Thinking Day

Feb. 22 was national World Thinking Day. The theme for World Thinking Day 2010 was "Together we can end extreme poverty and hunger."
World Thinking Day allows Girl Guides and Girl Scouts a chance to celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community - one of 145 countries in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS).This year, girls voted and selected Germany, Kuwait, Peru, the Philippines, and South Africa to represent the five regions of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) — Europe, the Arab region, Western Hemisphere, Asia/Pacific and Africa.
One of the Brownie activities for the World Thinking Day Patch was to plan a healthy meal for a family of four for less than $10? The Brownies were split into groups of two or three and given a supermarket flyer. The Brownie groups identified yogurt as a meal for breakfast. Another group opted for orange juice and dry cereal for breakfast. For lunch, one group identified Chef Boyardee. For dinner, a group said they only had enough money for rice and water. The girls all stay within budget by 50 cents; but many struggled with the concept of identifying healthy meals.

At the Feb. 22 meeting, the Brownies voted on activities they would like to do before they leave this level of Girl Scouts in June.
The #1 activity was camping with 11 votes.
The #2 activity was a cruise/dance party in Boston harbor with 8 votes.
Other top choices were a sleepover at a children's museum, with 7 votes; a visit to the New England Aquarium with 6 votes, and visiting a horse farm with 5 votes.
After finishing Snack and the vote; Erin led the Troop in reading the Girl Scout Promise.
Then, Talia led the girls in the reciting of the Girl Scout Law.
During our Brownie Circle, we talked to the Brownies the original Girl Scout Law. We explained to the Brownies the meaning of the WAGGS pin they wear on their vest. We talked about World Thinking Day.
After we completed the World Thinking Day discussion and activities; the Brownies started work on sewing a book. This activity was the 4th activity needed to complete the Stitch It Try-It.
Finally, the girls created a Friendship Circle and we concluded the meeting with Becky starting the Brownie Squeeze.

Disney on Ice & Troop 2082

Members of Troop 2082 attended Girl Scout Night at Disney on Ice in Boston last Friday night. Attending were Alyssa, Becky, Bella, Sasha, Talia, & Tovah. Each Brownie earned a Disney on Ice Celebrations patch for the back of their vest.

Cookie Money Due Monday, Feb. 22

INDIVIDUAL COOKIE SALE money is due at our Next Troop meeting - Monday, Feb. 22. Girls should collect CASH.
Checks MAY BE WRITTEN to the parent of the Brownie,
but then that Brownie Mom should write just ONE check for all the checks collected to the TROOP -- "GSEM Troop #72082"
Unfortunately, any checks that bounce mean less money for the Brownies to do something fun at the end of the year.

NOTE: Our next meeting MAY be a field trip location. If that is the case, we will send an e-mail with more details. The Troop may be touring the bakery at BJS to complete their Baking Try-It Badge.

Our Brownie Troop has done a FABULOUS job selling cookies. We sold out of all of our cookies from BOTH booth sales - almost 600 boxes. And, individually, 14 girls sold more than 1150 boxes of cookies.
The 16 Brownies each earned a Saleswoman Try-It for their efforts. The badges are on order. The top 3 individual sellers will also receive patches, which are on order.

Wednesday, Jan. 20 is Last Day to Sell Cookies

Wednesday, Jan. 20 is the last day to sell Girl Scout cookies to family, friends, & neighbors. Forms must be turned into Cookie Mom Jennifer Nalon (Maddie's mom) on Wednesday.
If your Brownie's order form is not turned into the Cookie mom, your daughter may not be eligible for her cookie prizes, including her patch for the back of her vest.
Brownies must sell a minimum of 15 boxes of cookies to qualify for the patch.

The Troop earns 60 cents for each box of cookies sold. We use this money for activities, like the Museum of Science Sleepover & rollerskating, and for supplies for arts & crafts and other projects at meetings.
The Troop's first Cookie Booth sale will be Monday, Jan. 25 at Stop & Shop (behind Lowe's).

MEETING SUMMARY: Brownies Create Cookie T-Shirts & Practice Sales Techniques

We had out first Brownie Meeting of 2010 this week.
After snack, Emily S. led the Troop in reading the Girl Scout Promise.
Then, Emily D. led the girls in the reciting of the Girl Scout Law.
During our Brownie Circle, we talked to the Brownies about the ongoing Cookie sale. We asked that each Brownie try to sell a minimum of 15 boxes of cookies before they turn in their sheets on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
We talked to the Troop about the upcoming cookie booth sales at Stop & Shop on Monday, Jan. 25 and Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 7.
We also talked about an upcoming (date TBD) field trip to a bakery to complete the Confectionary Yours Try-It.
Then, we explained to the girls that we were starting a new Try-it today - Art to Wear.
Each Brownie was provided with a white t-shirt and fabric markers. Each girl was asked to decorate the t-shirt with a Girl Scout cookie theme. The Troop will wear the t-shirts at the cookie booth sales.

After the arts & crafts projects, the girls worked on their Let's Pretend Try-It, with some role playing of customers at a Girl Scout Cookie booth.
Then, the Brownies created a Friendship Circle and concluded the meeting with Ayushi starting the Brownie Squeeze.

PLEASE IRON Your Daughter's Cookie Shirt

Your daughter created a t-shirt at our Brownie Meeting on Monday. The drawing will not be set for future washings, until the shirt is ironed. The markers are heat set markers.
Please turn the shirt inside out. And iron the markers to set the design. You might wish to put a pad between the shirt & your ironing board so the markers do not transfer. I would recommend ironing the shirt with one side of the shirt on top of the ironing board and one side underneath the ironing board.
The girls are to wear their "Cookie sale" t-shirts at our cookie booth sale on Monday, Jan. 25th. More details will be forthcoming on that event.
The shirt also filled a requirement for the art-to-wear TRY-IT badge. The girls still need to complete 3 more requirements.

Cookie Booth Sales - Jan. 25 & Feb. 7th

The Troop has a new cookie Mom, Jenn Fusi, Maddie's Mom.
She has arranged two both sales for us, both at the Stop and Shop on old Connecticut Path.
The first on is on our next meeting day - Monday Jan 25th 4-7pm and the second one is Sunday Feb 7th 1-4. We will dividing the troops into two shift.
On Monday Jan 25th the shifts will be 4-530 and 530-7.
Please let me know if your daughter is unable to do either of the shifts and what your preference would be.
We will do our best to accommodate preferences.
We also need a few parents to help supervise. let me know if you are interested.

Girl Scout Cookies Available Today!!!

Today, Monday, Dec. 28 is the first day of the public Girl Scout cookie sale!

Safari & Carolling Patches

We've ordered patches for the Brownies who participated in the Framingham Tree Lighting ceremony and Girl Scout sing-a-long & the Brownies who took part in the Council Jungle Safari program.
The Council store is closed until January 2010.
We hope to have the patches for the girls by our first meeting in January.
The cost of the patches will be deducted from each of the individual Brownies' accounts.

Final Brownie Meeting of 2009 is Monday

Our final Brownie Meeting of 2009 will be held Monday, Dec. 21 at 4:15 p.m.
The girls will be icing and decorating mini cakes as part of a requirement to earn the Baking Try-It. The girls don't need to wear their vests.

See Fellow Brownie in a Performance of Hairspray on Monday, Dec. 14

One of the girls (Emily S.) in our Brownie Troop has missed a few meetings, as she has been rehearsing for a performance of Hairspray.
As the Brownies are working on a theatre Try-It, and as they will know Emily, I am posting this information on this FREE Hairspray performance.
***This is an OPTIONAL event. Girls can attend with their families.

PERFORMANCE INFO:
Hairspray is Monday 12/14 at 5:30 p.m. at PAC. (The red door of the Danforth Museum in downtown Framingham). There is no Brownie meeting that day! The show is FREE, but seats are expected to fill up quickly.

Emily's Mom said the theatre troupe split the parts so that it is fair to all.
Emily is Tracy in one scene, a newscaster in another and a gym teacher.
She is also in the chorus for the rest of the scenes."

Troop 2082 Brownies Featured in Local Newspaper

The five Brownies from our Troop, who participated in the holiday sing-a-long last night at Town Hall were also featured in today's metrowest daily news.

Holiday Sing-A-Long Details for Friday Night, Dec. 4th

Afternoon everyone,
Just received final details this morning for tomorrow's Girl Scout sing-a-long and holiday tree lighting at Town Hall with Santa Claus.

There are about 50 Girl Scouts from Framingham who are expected to be participating.

Please meet on the NEW Town Hall steps at 6 p.m.
Have the girls wear their Vest OVER their coat.
I will send a link later tonight, so if you choose, you can print off the song lyrics and bring with you.

This is NOT a drop off event. There will be more than 200-300 people at Town Hall tomorrow night.

An adult should stay -- however one parent can be responsible for 2-3 kids, if they choose.

The girls will start singing at 6:15 p.m.
They will sing until Santa arrives on his fire truck. (Expect 15-30 minutes of singing)
The girls MAY sing one song with Santa (depending on how on time or late he is.); and then the girls will stay on the steps with Santa as he lights the town christmas tree.

I will be coming from Hopkinton, so I may not get there until 6:10 p.m.

After the tree lighting, I would like to take a photo of the girls from the TROOP who participated.

After that everyone is on their own. INSIDE Town hall, there will be hot cocoa, coffee, treats and a performance by the all-elementary 5th grade school band, among other activities.

Please e-mail me to let me know if you daughter IS attending tomorrow, so I can provide an accurate count to the leader who is coordinating the event.

Meeting Summary: Brownies Try Their Hand at Needlepoint

The Brownies in Troop 2082 started out today's meeting working on Thanksgiving cards, as part of a community service project.
Afterwards, the girls had snack.
Then, the Troop gathered into its Brownie Circle.
Sydney led the Brownies in the Girl Scout Promise.
Ayushi led the Brownies in reading the Girl Scout Law.
Then, Leader Pam talked to the Troop about the optional service project on Wednesday at Eagles Hall in downtown Framingham.
Recently, a trio of girls in the Troop participated in a three optional Council Events and talked about the events in the Brownie Circle.
Bella showed the Brownies the Swim Safety participation patch she earned, and talked about the water program, which included swim strokes, synchronized swimming, and life vest training.
Talia showed the Brownies the Night Hike participation patch she earned, and talked about the activities and science experiments, including rubbing quartz stones, and chewing a wintergreen Lifesaver.
(Alyssa will talk about Girl Scout Night at the Worcester Sharks at a future meeting.)
After the Brownie Circle, the girls began work on a snowflake stitching (needlepoint) kit as part of their Stitch It Together Try-It work.
Several of the Brownies found this activity challenging. (The activity is geared for girls ages 8+).
As we progressed with the project, it was determined that the girls should stitch through the photo of the completed project, so not to count squares.
The Brownies were asked to complete the program at home. It was suggested that a parent or guardian take a Sharpie marker and outline the areas for the blue yard to help the child complete the project at home.
While some of the girls struggled with the activity, we thought the activity showed the Brownies what it was like for girls in Victorian and earlier historic eras, without electronics and video games. That typically, girls in those times, stitched or did needlepoint to occupy their time.
After clean-up, the Brownies joined in a Circle and Sarah started the Friendship Squeeze.

Optional Service Project for Brownies on Nov. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Our Troop has the opportunity to do a service project next Wednesday, Nov. 25.
We realize that some of you may be heading out of town right after the noon early release, but we are hoping a number of you who are around will be available to help out. (It is also might give you all two extra hours for holiday preparation!) My older daughter's Troop participated for 2 years and got a lot out of it.

The Curtis family of Framingham organizes a Thanksgiving dinner at the Fraternal Order of Eagles banquet hall (55 Park St.-directions to follow).
Our Troop would be volunteering, along with others, the day before to help with the preparations. We may peel pounds of carrots, bag bread and butter, set tables and also have make Thanksgiving Day cards to go with home delivered meals. (Our Troop has already made cards during our most recent meeting.)
This year we will be helping out again on Wednesday Nov. 25th from 1-3 pm.
Pam (and at least one of the other leaders) will be attending.
Other parents are welcome to help if they wish.
Please let me know if you daughter plans to attend. I will have a permission slip for you to sign at next Monday's meeting (and will send one home with girls whose parent's don't do pick up/drop off.) Please let me know if you have any questions. The info. below gives a bit more information. -Pam

Next Meeting, Monday, Nov. 9

There is no Brownie meeting tomorrow. It is next week, Nov. 9.
When the leaders planned the schedule for the year, we decided not to meet on the
2nd since we had rollerskating on the 1st.
When people asked today, we realized that we had not sent out the Brownie schedule for the year. We apologize.
The Schedule for the year, can be found on the right hand side of this Web site. Next to each meeting, is the Brownie responsible for bring drink & snack to the meeting.
