PLEASE IRON Your Daughter's Cookie Shirt

Your daughter created a t-shirt at our Brownie Meeting on Monday. The drawing will not be set for future washings, until the shirt is ironed. The markers are heat set markers.
Please turn the shirt inside out. And iron the markers to set the design. You might wish to put a pad between the shirt & your ironing board so the markers do not transfer. I would recommend ironing the shirt with one side of the shirt on top of the ironing board and one side underneath the ironing board.
The girls are to wear their "Cookie sale" t-shirts at our cookie booth sale on Monday, Jan. 25th. More details will be forthcoming on that event.
The shirt also filled a requirement for the art-to-wear TRY-IT badge. The girls still need to complete 3 more requirements.
If you have any questions, in regards to ironing the design, please call or e-mail me.
Thanks
Susan

NEW MEETING LOCATION - Next Meeting, Monday, Oct. 5th

Hi Troop 72082-
We will be having our first official Browie meeting Monday Oct. 5th from 4:15 -5:30pm,
but AT A NEW LOCATION - PLYMOUTH CHURCH ON EDGELL RD
Take the driveway on the left of the church and follow it around back to the far side which is facing the preschool. The office door is under the overhang. Follow the stairs down and go down the hall and make a left down the hallway. We will be meeting in the last door on the right. The reason for our move is that we were out growing the room we were in and its lack of carpeting made it very loud.
My cell phone( in case anyone gets lost the first time) is 508-740-2115.
The door will usually be open for drop off and pick up.

We will be handing out a meeting schedule for the year and finishing up snack assignments.

Looking forward to seeing all the girls!

Meeting Summary: Penny Power and Learning About Money

At Monday's meeting, the Brownies began work on the Penny Power Try-It badge.
Before starting work on the badge, the new girls who joined the Troop, this year, were presented with their World Trefoil Pin.
Presented with the pin were: Ayushi, Alyssa, Erin, Tovah, Sagan, & Sasha.
Ask your daughter to tell you some of the symbolism behind the pin.
(Hint: ask her about the sun, sky & stars)
As the Troop began working on the Penny Power Try-It, we talked about money.
What does money look like?
Why there are different designs for coins and bills?
We talked about counterfeit money.
We discussed who is pictured on money.
Then, we had a discussion about earning money. We talked about our cookie sale.
As a Troop of 16 Brownies, the girls sold about 700 boxes.
At the two cookie booth sales, they sold about another 600 boxes of cookies.
We did a little math too. The girls figured out at $4 a box how much money was collected. Then, they tried to figure out how much money the Troop earned, if the Troop keeps 60 cents for each box sold.
After a discussion of cookie sales in the Brownie Circle, we then began some fun money/finance activities as part of the Try-It requirements.
The Brownies played a game similar to one found on the game show The Price is Right.
Two objects were placed in front of them and the Brownies guessed which item was more expensive.
(Surprisingly, a majority of the Troop thought a Magic Treehouse paperback book cost more than a hardcover book.) We explained that typically hard cover books cost more money.
The Brownies did better when it came to a battle between Barbie and a Webkinz (Barbie costs less.)
The Brownies also thought that a can of Progresso Soup cost more than a box of cereal.
Afterwards, groups of 3 0r 4 girls were shown an object (Game of Clue Jr., a Gymboree top, a pair of kids shoes, a video game cartridge, etc..) and had to try to guess what it cost.
The girls will finish work on the Penny Power Try-It at the next meeting.
*
In the final Brownie Circle of the meeting, we reminded the girls of the importance of wearing their vest and Brownie uniform to Thursday's field trip to the Girl Scout Museum and about an optional activity -- Alice in Wonderland ballet and post-performance tea party.
Then the girls did the Friendship Squeeze and Girl Scout Out.

Please remember that ONE check made out for the full amount is to be handed in.
Cash in the exact amount is also OK.

We will be meeting at close to 4pm as possible. ( I am willing to pick up all Brophy Kids at 3:45 if you send in a note- Kelly, Sydney, Emily, Talia and Alyssa and Auyshi (3:55 on the corner)) Just let me know. Parents should come at 5:15 as we will be reviewing cookie selling procedure and handing out patches. Meeting Monday -- Update on projects

Our next Brownie troop meeting is Monday at 4:15 at St. Andrew. We will be continuing our work on the All in the Family Try-it.
At our last meeting, 14 of the 16 girls presented their heritage item to the troop. The last two girls will present their heritage item Monday, the girls will begin work on a family birthday calendar, and if time permits we will start a family time capsule.
NEEDS: If you have extra family photographs that can be CUT, please have your daughter bring them to Monday's meeting so she can use with the family calendar craft. Individual photos of each immediate family member are better than a large group of people in a photo. Those girls who brought their photos at the last meeting, we saved them in her folder.
For the time capsule, we are looking for each girl to bring in an empty cereal box (ie Wheaties, Corn Flags, Fruit Loops, etc). The cereal box will be the capsule for that project. If you don't have a box for Monday's meeting, please try to bring a box for the first meeting in December. The girls will be working on the time capsule for likely two meetings. If you still don't have a cereal box and don't anticipate having one, please let a leader know as we can have extras brought in..
As always if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail any of us..
SPECIAL EVENT: Don't forget the Museum of Science checks, if you daughter wishes to participate. It is $47 for her and $47 for an adult. Please make checks out to GSEM Troop #72082..
FUNDRAISER: Packaged candy & nut boxes & cans will be distributed to those who participated in the fundraiser at the end of the meeting. Patches and prizes are still not available..
PATCH WORK: The Grandma & Me requirement work is not due until the first meeting in December. If your daughter has already completed her work, she can bring it to Monday's meeting and we will store it in her folder. The Grandma & Me patch requirement work is posted on this site.
SNACK MOM: Finally, please note that there is a girl in the troop who has an allergy to walnuts, cashews, almonds, tree nuts, etc. So when sending in snack for the troop please read labels. A list of who has which meeting for snack is located on the right-hand side of the site.
