A minimum of 15 tickets must be ordered to qualify for the $14 rate, so like the ballet event, I have opened this event up to other Framingham Girl Scouts.

FIELD TRIP: Girl Scout Museum in Waltham
They saw a painting of Girl Scout Founder Juliette Gordon Low, who began Girl Scouts in 1912. They learned about Girl Guides all over the world.
The Brownies tried on different scout hats and posed for a Troop photograph.
The girls had the opportunity to check our pins from all over the world and badges through the years.
The field trip today was lead by volunteer Janet Coombs, who showed the girls her Brownie pin when she was about their age. (She told the Troop that when she was Brownie you had to be a third grader.) Brownies used to be first-second-third graders. Starting next year, Brownies will only be second and third graders.
Coombs told the girls that as a Brownie she didn't have uniform options. She had to wear a dress. pants were not allowed in school or at a Troop meeting.
The Girls learned why there was a pocket on the Brownie dress and why the pocket was not straight (Ask your daughter why. Hint: she can sing a song about it.)
The Brownies sang that song at the Museum.
Coombs showed girls a Brownie Beanie (hat). The girls had the opportunity to try on a Beanie.
The Brownies also had the opportunity to see what they would look like in a old-fashioned Brownie and Girl Scout uniform. (See some of the photographs below of them...)
The girls learned about the Cedar Hill site. They learned about Cornelia Warren, who lived on the site in a mansion, which was her summer home. The mansion does not exist anymore. In her will, she left the land to the community and in 1923 it was given to the Girl Scouts.
The Brownies had the opportunity to build a world trefoil using blue and gold felt. They also read about the symbolism in the World Trefoil Pin.
The girls had the opportunity to see pictures and miniatures of the camp site at Cedar Hill.
The Brownies had the opportunity to make a craft and play a memory game, using Brownie and Scout memorabilia.
Afterwards the Troop came together in a Brownie Circle and let Coombs start the Friendship Squeeze after singing Make New Friends. Coombs taught the Troop how to turn the circle inside out and showed us a new way to end our meetings with a Brownie Tunnel.

Meeting Summary: Penny Power and Learning About Money
At Monday's meeting, the Brownies began work on the Penny Power Try-It badge.
Before starting work on the badge, the new girls who joined the Troop, this year, were presented with their World Trefoil Pin.
Presented with the pin were: Ayushi, Alyssa, Erin, Tovah, Sagan, & Sasha.
Ask your daughter to tell you some of the symbolism behind the pin.
(Hint: ask her about the sun, sky & stars)
As the Troop began working on the Penny Power Try-It, we talked about money.
What does money look like?
Why there are different designs for coins and bills?
We talked about counterfeit money.
We discussed who is pictured on money.
Then, we had a discussion about earning money. We talked about our cookie sale.
As a Troop of 16 Brownies, the girls sold about 700 boxes.
At the two cookie booth sales, they sold about another 600 boxes of cookies.
We did a little math too. The girls figured out at $4 a box how much money was collected. Then, they tried to figure out how much money the Troop earned, if the Troop keeps 60 cents for each box sold.
After a discussion of cookie sales in the Brownie Circle, we then began some fun money/finance activities as part of the Try-It requirements.
The Brownies played a game similar to one found on the game show The Price is Right.
Two objects were placed in front of them and the Brownies guessed which item was more expensive.
(Surprisingly, a majority of the Troop thought a Magic Treehouse paperback book cost more than a hardcover book.) We explained that typically hard cover books cost more money.
The Brownies did better when it came to a battle between Barbie and a Webkinz (Barbie costs less.)
The Brownies also thought that a can of Progresso Soup cost more than a box of cereal.
Afterwards, groups of 3 0r 4 girls were shown an object (Game of Clue Jr., a Gymboree top, a pair of kids shoes, a video game cartridge, etc..) and had to try to guess what it cost.
The girls will finish work on the Penny Power Try-It at the next meeting.

In the final Brownie Circle of the meeting, we reminded the girls of the importance of wearing their vest and Brownie uniform to Thursday's field trip to the Girl Scout Museum and about an optional activity -- Alice in Wonderland ballet and post-performance tea party.
Then the girls did the Friendship Squeeze and Girl Scout Out.

We will be meeting in St. Andrew's parking lot at 1:30 and drive in 5 cars.
The tour runs from 2:30-3:30 so we plan to be back to the parking lot around 4:30.

THIS WEEK: Field Trip, Ballet & Cookies
Below are a few reminders for upcoming events & important dates for THIS WEEK.
As a Troop, we talked about these with the girls during Brownie Circle time, but we realize that not all information comes home...
1) Just a reminder the Brownie Troop is doing a Field Trip to the Girl Scout Museum in Waltham on Thursday. The 3 Troop leaders and Sagan's and Ayushi's moms are driving. Unless you hear otherwise from your driver, Brownies are meeting at the parking lot of our typical meeting site at 1:30 p.m. The tour starts at 2:30 p.m. and will last about an hour.
Please have your daughter where her Brownie vest. Also as this is an official Brownie activity, please have her wear a white or cream top and brown pants or skirt. A brown-colored dress is fine, as is a brown top.If you have any questions, please contact any of the leaders.
2) Last week, the Brownies worked on the requirements for the Dancercise Try-It. Some of the girls inquired about seeing a LIVE ballet. Dance Prism, a Boston-area professional ballet company, is offering Girl Scouts an opportunity to experience a special afternoon of ballet plus a post-performance tea party at a discounted ticket price. The Alice in Wonderland Ballet takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. There is a special pre-show talk/tour at 1:30 p.m. for Scouts. And a post-performance tea party with pastries and the chance to meet some of the dancers. Cost is $12 for Scouts and $18 for adults. (family members may attend at this group rate too.)
***The good news is that a dozen Brownies from another Troop will be joining us at the ballet, so we have the minimum needed for the Scout discount.
*** The deadline to sign up is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24.
Please E-mail me ASAP if you and your daughter would like to attend the ballet.
Please bring payment with your child to Thursday's field trip.

OPTIONAL EVENT: Safari Scout Day at Roger Williams Zoo on Saturday, April 25
Girl Scouts of Rhode Island and Roger Williams Zoo in Providence are hosting a Scout Safari Day on Saturday, April 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Brownie Troop 2082.
Spend an adventurous day at this Providence, R.I., Zoo with fellow Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of all ages. Scouts can participate in interactive stations that will help you to complete a variety of badge requirements, while surrounded by a zoo full of fascinating animals. Meet special guest presenters, Zoo staff, and some very cool critters.
Cost: $12/Scout (includes admission and program fee; does not include lunch). Non-Scouts: $5/children, $10/adults (admission only). The $5 non-Scout admission means that siblings will not be alowed to participate in any of the special programs and interactive stations.
Pre-registration is required and payment is due upon registration.
Registration deadline is April 9.
There will be a late fee of $5 per Scout after that date. Sorry, no refunds. Please let a leader know if you register your daughter.
At this time, no leader is attending. So if your daughter is interested in attending, a parent or guardian must attend with them. Transportation is on your own. If a leader does decide to attend, we will let you know.
In previous years a participation patch (for the back of the vest) was included in the cost of admission for this special event. It is unclear, at this time, if a patch will be given this year.

FIELD TRIP UPDATE: Girl Scout Museum on March 26
***We will be organizing car pools and meeting in the church parking lot at 1:30.
***The tour runs from 2:30-3:30, so we should be back by 4:30.
***We need at least one other chaperone that can fit 4 girls in her car or 2 chaperones to fit 2 each.

Alice in Wonderland Ballet & Post-Performance Tea Party on Sunday, April 5 in Worcester
This is an OPTIONAL event for Troop 2082
The Alice in Wonderland Ballet takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
*There is a special 20 to 30-minute pre-show talk/tour at 1:30 p.m. for Scouts.
*And a post-performance tea party and the opportunity to meet some of the cast and dancers. The tea party will have small pastries and other edible goodies, plus lemonade, tea and water.
***Cost is $12 for Scouts and $18 for adults. (family members may attend at this group rate too.) I need a minimum of 5 scouts for the troop to receive the group rate.
***The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, March 24 at noon. Please bring payment to Monday's meeting or Thursday's field trip!
***I'm offering this event as the Brownies expressed an interest in attending a ballet after working on the Dancercize Try-It at the last meeting.

Council Offering Little Breeze, Big Wind Try-It Workshop on Thursday, April 16
I believe this is an early release day for Framingham.
This is an OPTIONAL event for Brownies in Troop 2082.
Workshop description: The wind can create a gentle breeze or a powerful hurricane. An airplane couldn’t fly without the wind blowing on its wings. Can you make things that are powered by the wind and have fun doing it? Girls will earn the Movers Try-it.
Worskhop is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham.
The workshop is for 2nd and third grade Brownies only.
The cost of the workshop is $9 per Brownie. $0 per adult/leader.

Council Offering Letterboxing Event During School Vacation Week
Council also is offering a second letterboxing workshop on Sunday, April 26 in Waltham from noon to 2 p.m.
Workshop info: This is an intro to a great outdoor sport! With maps and clues in hand, girls head off on an outdoor nature adventure, discovering boxes and collecting stamped images for their logbook. The event is for Brownies Scouts.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Troop 2082.
At this time, no leader is attending either FUN event. That means an adult must register with each Brownie. If a leader registers, we will let you know.
The cost is $7 per Brownie and $0 per leader/adult.
Registration will remain open until the event capacity is full.
Transportation is on your own.

Exclusive Central Mass Medieval Maidens Try-it Offered on May 16
About the Event: The Middle Ages was an era of knights, fair ladies, princesses and castles. Brownies will learn about medieval times beyond the tales of adventure and make-believe and find out about the lives of girls and women during this time in history. They'll take a tour, do a craft, and have fun earning Central Massachusetts' Council's Own "Medieval Maidens" Try-It (included in price).
This is OPTIONAL event for members of Brownie Troop 2082. There is no leader attending, at this time. So, an adult needs to provide transportation and attend the event with their daughter. There is a FEE for the Adult with this event.

The cost is $ 17 per Brownie and $8 per adult.
Registration will continue through April 16 or when all 30 slots have filled.

Brownie Troop 2082 - Choreographers
At Monday's meeting, Brownies worked on their Dancercize Try-It. It was one of the three Try-Its the girls voted they wanted to earn this year.
While the girls were having snack, they watched a 20-minute video about girls, ages 8-18, enrolled in the American Ballet School in New York City. They learned what it takes to be a ballet dance, about the shoes, costumes, practices, and performances. The girls were then shown two ballet costumes, including a snowflake costume from the Nutcracker. The girls also had the opportunity to feel and try on a pair of leather ballet shoes.
Afterwards, leader Susan taught the girls a few dance steps.
For ballet, the girls learned the five basic positions, plie, grand plie, and pirouette.
For tap, the girls learned ball change and then learned combo step like step-ball change and shuffle-ball change and kick-ball change.
For jazz, the girls learned shoulder rolls, jazz hands, and a combination step.
For hip hop, the girls learned how to popping, locking, knee bops, and a few other moves.
Afterwards, the girls got to try their hands at choreography. Each girl added a step to a dance. And then the girls performed the 15-step Brownie Troop 2082 Dance.

Madison: Roll hand three times
Sydney: Kick
Kelly: 4th ballet position
Emily S: 4th ballet position spin
Tovah: John Travolta 3X -- Saturday Night Fever moves

Sarah: Cabbage patch three times
Jessica: Reach hands up high, have hands touch toe and then jump like a frog
Becky: Scissor Kicks -- (kick left and then kick right foot)
Ayushi: Spin, clap clapTalia: Spin and scissor kicks
Bella: Charleston -- hands up right foot forward, hands down, right foot backward
Sagan: Kung Fu Kick -- Knee up, kick leg, punch arm and then go back with foot
Emily D: hand roll, left hand up, hand roll, right hand up
At the end of the meeting, the girls participated in a Brownie Circle and did the Friendship Squeeze and the Girl Scout Out. Afterwards, the girls who attended the Eastern Mass Council Disney on ice event were presented with their participation patches ( for the back of the vest.)
Our next meeting is Monday, March 23.

Earn Exclusive "For the Birds" Try-It at April 4th Worcester Workshop
On Saturday April 4, at the Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary in Worcester from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Brownies can register to earn the exclusive Try-It.
At the workshop, Brownies will learn about the fascinating world of birds. They will explore beak adaptations, feathers, nests, bird calls and more.
The cost of the Try-it Badge is not included in the workshop and will need to be purchased by one of the troop's leaders at the Worcester Girl Scout store.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Troop 2082. A leader (Susan Petroni) is attending, so you may drop off your child in Worcester and pick her up. But you will need to provide your own transportation from Framingham to Worcester and back.
Parents may register their daughter for the special workshop with the Mass Audubon Society directly by calling MAS Broad Meadow Brook at 508-753-6087.
The cost to attend is $8 per Brownie. Parents/leaders are free.
The maximum number of girls who can participate is 30 Brownies. Registration will close once 30 girls have signed-up or by March 25.
If you register your daughter, please e-mail leader Susan Petroni so she knows. Also when you call Broad Meadow Brook tell them your daughter is a member of Brownie troop 2082 from Framingham and with leader Susan Petroni. Please tell them that even if a parent/guardian plans to stay.

It is Ayushi's turn for snack & juice. (Remember, no nuts or strawberries.)
The girls will be working on the Dancercize Try-It.
It was one of the 3 Try-Its they voted they wanted to earn this year along with the Animals & Brownies Through the Year Try-its.
Meeting starts at 4:15 and will end about 5:30 p.m.
If you have not signed a permission slip for the Girl Scout Museum Field Trip on Thursday, March 26 please see leader Pam either at drop-off or pick-up.
***Girls who attended the Disney on Ice Girl Scout event on Valentine's Day will be receiving their participation patches on Monday.
Bowling participation patches were handed out on Saturday.
Bowling Try-Its, along with other Try-Its earned in 2009, will be distributed at our year-end party.

COUNCIL EVENT: Globetrotters on March 29
If you buy tickets through GSEM to see The Harlem Globetrotters on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m., you will get loge seats, an educational workbook and a patch for just $25.
The same ticket at Ticketmaster would cost $39.35.
Bonus is that $8 of every ticket sold goes to GSEM.
The deadline of this wonderful, win-win offer is March 16.
This is an OPTIONAL event for members of Troop 2082. All family members, including siblings, may attend the Boston event at this special rate also.

March Coco Key Water Event SOLD OUT - 2 May Dates Added
Several parents had questions about this event and I received answers from Council last night at the Framingham Girl Scout Leader meeting.
While the March date is sold out, 2 May dates are still open -- MAY (2nd & 30th)
PRICE is the same $18 per person.

Answers to questions from Council:
1) This is a family event. Husbands & brothers are permitted.
2)There is no patch associated with this event, at this time. That could change.
3) There are no specific Girl Scout events planned for the event. Basically, the Scouts are getting a group rate and opening the event up to Scouts in Eastern Massachusetts and their families.
4) Registration is done individually and not as a troop. A credit card is required to register. Please, however, let a leader know if you register your daughter, as council may contact the leader on file if there is a cancellation or question with the event. Troop number is #72082.

Reminder: Bowling event is Saturday
* Please try to be on time at 2:15 p.m. at Fairways bowling alley on Route 9 West in Natick.
* Upon arrival, check in with your troop's leader for lane assignment.
* Get your shoes.
* Bowling will start at 2:30 p.m. It is a timed lane. The lane will shut off at 3:30 p.m. There will be a couple of Scouts and pals per lane.
* Afterwards, please turn in shoes.
