Brownies to Cruise Aboard the Spirit of Boston on Sunday, June 13

" ... Won't ya let me take you on a sea cruise? ..."

Brownie Troop 72082 is going on an Afternoon Luncheon Cruise
on the Spirit of Boston on Sunday, June 13.
Boarding at 11:30 a.m. Spirit leaves harbor at noon. Returns at 2 p.m.

The Brownies voted a cruise of Boston harbor the #2 activity they wanted to do before they bridge to Junior Scouts.

The cost of the cruise is $35 per person.
The Troop is paying $20 for each Scout, because of the terrific cookie selling effort by the Troop.

*** Each Brownie, who cruises, ONLY pays $15.

We are opening this event up to moms, if they wish to attend.
MOMS ARE OPTIONAL.
Any mom, who wishes to attend, needs to pay $35 per person.

The Spirit of Boston will set aside a part of the dining room for our Troop. The chef will be preparing child-friendly fare for the Troop, in addition to its traditional luncheon buffet.
Luncheon buffet menu:

Payment is due at our next meeting, Monday, April 12

We are putting a deposit of $175 down this week on the cruise. We need a minimum of 20 people to attend to get this special rate!
Because of that, we NEED a head count as soon as possible!
Please e-mail us this week if your daughter will be attending.
Also let us know if mom is coming too!

Parking is available at Seaport Hotel - $12
ICA parking may be available at a lower rate. We are checking.

Troop Camping Weekend - May 22-23

Brownie Troop 72082 is going on a weekend camping adventure!
Save the date! Saturday, May 22 & Sunday, May 23
(We anticipate since this is a weekend trip that each Brownie will be missing a religious service and/or a sporting event.)

We will be having our adventure at Girl Scout Camp Rice Moody in Reading.
We already put down the $100 deposit to have the lodge!
(We needed to go this far as we are a big Troop plus as this is our Troop’s first camping trip, we were looking for an indoor lodge, not outdoor tents.)

Our Troop will be sleeping in a heated lodge, but, we will be doing outdoor adventures including hikes, campfires, etc.

Check-in will be at Noon on Saturday, May 22.
We likely will be having a late check-in option at 5 p.m.

(We still need to work out travel arrangements, so late check-ins may need to drop their daughter(s) off at camp Rice Moody.

We still need to plan our activities, so we do not know at this time if we will be staying at the camp until noon on Sunday, May 23 or stay until mid-afternoon.

We have space for 2 adults to camp with us!
(Actually, we only have 1 spot - as Alyssa's mom has already agreed to help out)

We registered our group as 16 Brownies, 3 leaders, & 2 adults.
There is a possibility we may be camping with another Girl Scout Troop that weekend, as the site can hold 50 Scouts/adults.

The Brownies voted overnight camping as one of the 2 activities they wanted to do before they bridge to Junior Scouts this summer.

The Troop will be completing 2-5 Try-It badges during the weekend.

TENTATIVE Try-It Work:
* 4th activity for the Art-to-Wear Try-it
* Brownies, who were first-graders in the Troop ONLY, will complete Outdoor Adventurer
* completing the Eco-Explorer Try It
* Ready, Set, Go Camping Try-It
* possibly one other Try-It?

Our Brownie Troop will be hosting a Scout & Doll Tea Party with a Framingham
Daisy Troop at our next meeting, on Monday, April 12 at 4;15 p.m..

Each Brownies will be asked to talk about their doll for a few moments.

The doll can be anything from American Girl, Barbie, Disney, a rag doll, Cabbage Patch, even an action figure like Superman, if your daughter is not into "girly" dolls.

We will be serving Girl Scout Cookies, grapes, & juice.

During the meeting, OUR Brownie Scouts will be teaching the Daisy Scouts Girl Scout & Brownie traditions, and showing off their vests.
***May be a good time to iron or sew on any of those badges & patches.

If anyone has any issues or questions, please contact one of the leaders.

Troop Tours BJs Bakery & Decorates a Cake

The Brownies toured the bakery at BJ's yesterday. It was the final step in earning the Bakery/Sweets Try-It badge.
Each of the 16 Brownies got to decorate part of a half sheet cake. They used buttercream icing and pastry bags to decorate the cake.
Also during the tour, they learned what types of pastries and sweet are baked at the Framingham chain bakery. The girls also got a chance to see how the shrink-wrap machines works.
Afterwards, the girls all got to eat their name written on the sheet cake.
Below are photos from Monday's field trip:

Me & My Pal Bowling

13 Brownies from our Troops participated in Framingham Girl Scouts annual Me & My Pal Bowling event on Saturday, March 6 in Natick.
The girls had a great time bowling. Those who did not earn the Bowling Try-It last year were awarded the Try-It (Jessica's mom: please let me know if you have 2 of these Triangle-shaped badges).
Each of the 13 Brownies who participated earned a round bowling patch for the back of their vest.
Alyssa won one of the door prizes.
Below is a slide show of photos from the event. (To turn off the music, click on the sound icon.) The last set of photos are group shots. The girls like to act silly, so we NOW take a few happy, smilin' photos and then we take a couple of SILLY photos.
When you have a moment, please show them this slideshow.

Boston Ballet Workshop & Coppelia Performance on Saturday, April 17

OPTIONAL EVENTS -- a bit pricey, but interesting enough that I wanted to send out a group e-mail.

Girl Scout Council of Eastern Mass Council is holding a special workshop for Brownie Scouts with the Boston Ballet during School Vacation week on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at a cost of $11 per Brownie and $11 per adult. Program description below.

Floor tickets would be $48 (from $96) OR $33 (from $66) per person.

The Junior program for this event on Saturday, April 10 has SOLD OUT.

As of today, the Brownie morning workshop program is more than half full - so if interested please let me know ASAP, so we make arrangements to register your daughter for the workshop.

BOSTON BALLET MORNING WORKSHOP: Boston Ballet School will present a lively, interactive overview of the dance world and the history of dance, training, choreography and equipment. Each workshop will feature a behind-the-scenes look at Boston Ballet productions, including real costumes and footwear from the costume shop, and photos and videos to bring ballet to life. Lecturers will intersperse factual information with entertaining anecdotes from their own performing careers. The girls will learn a few steps to music so they can experience the fun of dancing together.

ABOUT COPPELIA BALLET: The light-hearted comedy of George Balanchine’s Coppélia, a Boston Ballet premiere, begins the spring season. Based upon the book by Charles Nuitter, after “Der Sandmann” by E.T.A. Hoffman, this sentimental tale revolves around the life-size dancing doll created by Doctor Coppélius who becomes the source of love troubles for a village swain. The ballet, first choreographed by Arthur St. Léon, was restaged by Marius Petipa and again by Lev Ivanov and Enrico Cecchetti. Balanchine maintained elements from these versions in Acts I and II, creating entirely new choreography for Act III. With this premiere, Boston Ballet joins Geneva Ballet and New York City Ballet, as one of only three companies in the world that have performed this work. Léo Delibes score, called by The New York Times, “a classic of melody, orchestration, rhythm, and storytelling,” is at once lively and accessible. With more than 20 children from Boston Ballet School, Coppélia remains a jubilant and melodic triumph.
