Troop Holiday Party

Hi-

Just wanted to remind everyone that Brownie troop 72082 will be having their holiday party on Monday 22nd at Uno's on Route 9. The girls wil be making theri ouwn pizzas. We will be meeting at close to 4pm as possible. ( I am willing to pick up all Brophy Kids at 3:45 if you send in a note- Kelly, Sydney, Emily, Talia and Alyssa and Auyshi (3:55 on the corner)) Just let me know. Parents should come at 5:15 as we will be reviewing cookie selling procedure and handing out patches. Also, if you are one of the working Mom's who dont usually come to pick up, we will be sending home an explanation sheet.

Because the school system has previously stated that they may close school on some days that do not seem that bad, we will not automatically cancel if school is cancelled. At 2pm we will send out and e-mail if the weather is questionable. If you do not have access to email at that time, please e-mail me back and let me know what number we should call you or your babysitter at to let them know.
Thanks!

NUTCRACKER Outing Saturday in Littleton

The 6 Brownies, who pre-signed up, (Becky, Bella, Jessica, Madison, Sagan, & Talia) are meeting at 5:3o p.m. Saturday night at Littleton Performing Arts Center for the Nutcracker Scout event. (Please meet in inside, as I anticipate it will be very cold tomorrow night.) The pre-show will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the ballet curtain will go up at 6:30 p.m.
During the pre-performance demonstration in the auditorium Brownies will learn details about the costuming, makeup, and scenery of the ballet production
I anticipate getting the nutcracker badge (pictured) (for the back of the vest) later that night.

***NOTE: I see on the Dance prism Web site tonight that there are still tickets available, so any Brownie (and their family) still interested in attending could purchase tickets at the box office in person.

The seats will likely not be with our group for the ballet, but I anticipate your daughter easily could sit with the troop for the pre-show activity.

If you plan to attend please let Troop leader Susan know.

I expect this to be a fun outing for the girls, especially since they voted to earn the Dance Try-it as one of the 3 badges they wish to earn this year.

Brownies Participate in Framingham Holiday Sing-A-Long

Three Brownies from Troop 2082 participated tonight in the 17th Annual Framingham Tree Lighting Ceremony downtown. Girls who participated were: Becky, Bella, & Emily D. Each will receive a participation patch, at a later date. Afterwards, attendees could listen to holiday songs performed by the 5th grade elementary school band, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, have a photo taken with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, and/or do arts & crafts.

Jingle Bells
James Pierpont. Publ. 1857

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Let It Snow!
SammyCahn, Jule Styne © 1945

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

It doesn’t show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say good night,
How I’ll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I’ll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we’re still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
Johnny Marks © 1949

You know Dasher and Dancer
And Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid
And Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
(reindeer)
Had a very shiny nose
(like a light bulb)
And if you ever saw it
(saw it)
You would even say it glows
(like a flash light)
All of the other reindeer
(reindeer)
Used to laugh and call him names
(like Pinochio)
The never let poor Rudolph
(Rudolph)
Play in any reindeer games
(like Monopoly)

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
(Ho, Ho, Ho)
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then all the reindeer loved him
(loved him)
And they shouted out with glee
(yippee)
“Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
(reindeer)
You’ll go down in history!”
(like Columbus)

Frost the Snow Man

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around.
O, Frosty the snowman
was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh
and play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpetty thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpetty thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

Frost the snowman knew
the sun was hot that day,
So he said, “Let’s run and
we’ll have some fun
now before I melt away.”
Down to the village,
With a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there all
Around the square saying,
Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler “Stop!”
For Frosty the snowman
Had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying,
“Don’t you cry,
I’ll be back again some day.”
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpetty thump thump,
Look at Frosty go
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpetty thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

(Extra Songs)
Jingle Bell Rock
Bobby Helms

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it’s the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That’s the jingle bell,
That’s the jingle bell,
That’s the jingle bell rock.

Deck The Halls

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
‘Tis the season to be jolly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Don we now are gay apparel
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
Glad tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Glad tidings for Christmas
And a happy New Year!

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
J. Fred Coots, Henry Gillespie © 1934

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He’s making a list,
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who’s naughty and nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout, I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town.
Santa Claus is coming to town.

Troop Meeting #6 Summary

During today's meeting, after snack and celebrating Sydney's 8th birthday, the troop went into its Brownie Circle and shared what they learned while working on the Grandma & Me patch project.
The girls were having so much fun sharing their information and objects that we did not have time to work on the time capsule project, which completes the All in the Family Try-It.
We will finish that Try-it project in January.
In all, 14 girls shared information on their grandmothers and will earn the Grandma & Me special participation patch (back of the vest).
The patches will be distributed at our next meeting -- which will be OFFSITE at Uno's on Route 9E on Monday, Dec. 22 at an earlier start time of 4 p.m.
A parent must sign a permission slip for your daughter to participate in the kitchen tour and pizza party that day. If you did not sign a permission slip for your daughter Monday, please contact a leader to do so.
The Troop is picking up the tab for the special outing.
NOTE: At our next meeting, information will be distributed about the annual Cookie Sale.
At the end of Monday's meeting, the girls participated in a Friendship Squeeze and Circle Time.
Afterwards, those who sold magazines, candy & nuts this fall were given their participation patches (7 girls earned one patch and one girl earned all 4 patches, several earned 2 & 3 patches) and prizes (necklaces and stuffed bear with glow-in-the-dark t-shirts or both).

Grandma & Me Patch Work Due Monday

The girls in Brownie Troop 2082 should be finishing their work on the participation patch Grandma & Me this weekend.
We talked about the patch at the Oct. 20 meeting. (The patch will go on the back of the vest.)
To earn the patch, the girls will need to complete 3 of the 6 items by Monday's meeting (Dec. 8th).
NOTE: Three of the items can be completed even if your daughter doesn’t have a living grandma or has one who lives far away.
The requirements for this patch were posted on this Web site in October and given to the girls to take home at last week's meeting.

Framingham Tree Lighting - Singing schedule

The Town of Framingham Tree Lighting is planned for Friday, Dec. 12 at about 6 p.m.

Girl Scouts typically do a holiday sing-a-long on the steps of Town Hall awaiting the arrival of Santa. This a Framingham Girl Scouts sponsored event for all Girl Scout troops - Daisy, Brownie, Junior, etc.

This is also a family event. (I know several of the town's elementary schools are participating too). Please bring the entire family to the event, if you celebrate this holiday.

As this is a VERY crowded event at Memorial Hall downtown in Framingham, it can NOT be a dropoff event. It will be TOO CROWDED for a leader or two leaders to watch the entire troop.

We'd like to have a head count by Wednesday, Dec. 10 by noon. We realize if the weather turns bad that you and your family may change your mind.

Girls who participate will earn a patch (for the back of their vest). The cost will be deducted from their activity fun (estimated cost is about $1 to $1.50). A couple of girls participated last year and earned a caroling fun patch.

Any questions or thoughts or to RSVP, please e-mail co-leader Susan

Candy, Nut, And Magazine Prizes and Patches

I picked up the magazine, candy, & nut sales' prizes and patches (for back of the Brownie vest) this afternoon in Waltham at the Girl Scout Regional office. The prizes & patches will be distributed at the END of the meeting on Monday. Seven of the 16 girls in our troop participated and the troop earned just over $130. Every girl, who participated in the fundraiser, earned either a patch and/or a prize. Several girls earned multiple patches & prizes.

SNACK MOM & Food Allergy Awareness

We wanted to let all the moms in our Brownie Troop be aware that there is a girl in the troop, who has an allergy to walnuts, cashews, almonds, tree nuts, etc.
When sending in snack for the troop please read labels and avoid products that contains these items and/or were processed in a plant/facility with these items.
A list of who has which meeting for snack is posted on the right hand navigation bar of this Web site.
If any parent has any questions, please e-mail any leader.
If you have specific questions about a certain food, feel free to contact co-leader Susan Petroni, as she is the first aider for the troop and an aunt of a niece with a peanut allergy.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Museum of Science Sleepover UPDATE

This afternoon, we placed and paid for reservations for 14 of the 16 girls to attend the special Museum of Science sleepover in June 2009.
This is the BIG event for our Troop 2082 for our second grade brownies. It is a Mom & Me event on June 6. Mom & Me means that every girl attending could bring their mom (or an adult FEMALE relative/guardian 19 or older). YET, an adult is not required to attend for your child to go, as all 3 leaders will be attending. No siblings can attend. No males can attend.
This special Girl Scout night event, according to Eastern Massachusetts Council description, typically includes hands-on science activities, science demonstrations, an Omni show, a late night program, and tim to explore the museum.
FYI: Dinner is on your own that night (June 6) and there is a $5 per car parking fee for keeping a car overnight in the garage. We are checking to see if brown bagging will be allowed and if the food court at the Museum will be open.
We will be providing more details on this special event, as they become available from Council, as this event is sponsored by the Eastern Massachusetts Girl Scouts Council.
If you have any questions, concerns, or issues, please don't hesitate to contact one of us leaders at any time.

Cookie Mom In Training Wanted

Hi Folks-

Girl Scout cookie selling season is quickly approaching. We have 2 more meetings before Dec. break (Monday the 8th at St. Andrew's and a holiday party on the 22nd- location TBD). At the party, we will be giving out information about the cookie sale. It officially does not start until after New Years, but girls are permitted to sell to any relatives over vacation.

Shawn Granoff has acted as "Cookie Mom" for our troop last year in addition to being "Cookie Mom" for her daughter's Junior troop. This has a big task for her to handle both troops (and a crowed situation in her living room!). Generally, it is recommended that a parent other than a troop leader act as "Cookie Mom." Shawn has agreed to continue this year, but is asking for someone to step up and shadow her this year in anticipation of taking over the job next year. The task involves going to a one short training, entering all the orders in to a girl scout data base, picking up the cookies from a site in Framingham ( with the help of other parents who have minivans), sorting the cookies in your home and setting specific times for families to pick up the cookies, entering the checks received in the data base and calling stop and shop to set up a time for a booth sale. If you have specific questions you can call Shawn. She will be attending a cookie training tonight at 7 pm at Plymouth church. If you think you might be interested, you are welcome to attend tonight. If you are not free tonight, you can still volunteer; Shawn will fill you in and you can attend the training next year.

Thank you for your consideration!

-Pam O'Callaghan

Cookie University

Cookie University (cookie training) will take place tomorrow night, Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Plymouth Church. Any mom interested in assisting Cookie Mom/co-leader Shawn Granoff please e-mail a leader.
