Town-Wide Roller Skating Event -- UPDATE

Hi Troop 2082-

Just touching base about the rollerskating town-wide event at Roller Kingdom in Hudson.

We have 4 chaperones who will be driving and attending the event. We need to limit the number of adults, so unfortunately not all parents can attend. Also, the chaperones must be registered adult members for insurance purposes. We will coordinate carpooling once we have confirmation of who is attending. ( Of course, you are welcome to drop off you own child if you wish, but we are offering car pools to make it easier).

The $4 entrance fee will be taken out of each girl's account. If they have their own skates, please bring them. If they need to rent skates the fee is $3. Please have your child bring the money that day.

We realize the time of the event 5:30-7:30 is during most peoples dinner time. There is food being sold - pizza etc. However, it might be difficult for the girls being so young to manage money in a crowded situation. If at all posssible, please try to feed them something beforehand. The troop will be bringing cupcakes for a snack. ( unfortuantley, no outside food is permitted). If you do want your daughter to buy something, please let the chaperone driving her know so they can oversee things, so money isnt lost.

If you daughter has not signed up and still wishes to go, I need to know NO LATER than this weekend.
--- Pam

Brownie Investiture Ceremony & Girls Earn Friends Are Fun Try-It at Last Meeting

At our meeting earlier this week, the girls of Brownie Troop 2082 took part in an Brownie Investiture Ceremony and were awarded their official Brownie pin. The pins were put on upside down. The new Brownies were asked to do 3 good deeds at home, just like the Magic Elf in the Brownie Tale, in order to turn their pin right-side up.
Later during the meeting, the girls earned their Try-It Friends Are Fun. (The leaders will hand out the badge at a later date.) As a troop we had a discussion on what is a friend, how a Brownie can make new friends, and how Brownies can make other girls feel welcomed and included. Later, the girls made a a friendship card and a friendship bracelet to give to a friend or close relative. And the girls worked individually on breaking an alphabet code. (The answer was -- "Make New Friends, But Keep the Old. One is Silver and the Other is Gold."
Below are some photos from the ceremony and the arts & craft activity:

Oct. 15: Brownie Meeting & Ceremony

Just a reminder that we have a Brownie Meeting tomorrow ( 3:45-5:15 in the basement of St. Andrews).

Please have the girls wear their vest with patches and pins on it. (Shawn will be bringing newly ordered vests for Rebecca and Madison). If you need any help give me a call 508-877-3436.

Also, have the girls wear their "uniform" brown pants, skirt, skort with an off white or cream top if you have gotten one already. If not, don't stress out. (Also, Susan Petroni has size 5 velour brown pants, that Bella has outgrown, that she will bring tomorrow if anyone needs them.)

For girls that were Daisys last year, put your daisy pin and world trefoil pin (blue one) on the vest as well.

At the beginning of the meeting, we will be having a small investiture ceremony - where the girls receive their brownie pins. We welcome parents who are able to stay and watch the ceremony. If you can't be there, please know that we will take a picture of each girl.

Also, at drop off we need parents of anyone attending the math and computer workshop next weekend or rollerskating outing to sign a permission card. If you are carpooling with someone else, we can make other arrangements to sign the cards.

Lastly, since the church building is locked until we arrive and leaders need some time to get the room set up, we ask that girls don't come into the building until 3:40. If we have time to get settled, we can better greet the girls and tend to any questions all of you may have.
Thanks for your understanding.

We are excited for a fun year with the troop!
See you tomorrow

Brownies Earn MY BODY Try-It

At our first Brownie Meeting, Oct Monday, Oct 1, the 13 girls in the troop earned the My Body Try-It. We started the meeting, by having each girl trace her hand on a sheet of paper and write 5 things about themselves. When the girls were done with their project, they moved into the Brownie Circle where they learned about the Brownie Sign (http://brownie2082.blogspot.com/2007/10/brownie-glossary-of-terms.html). As a troop, we recited the Girl Scout Promise (http://brownie2082.blogspot.com/2007/10/girl-scout-promise.html) and and the Girl Scout Law (http://brownie2082.blogspot.com/2007/10/girl-scout-law.html) (Daisy troop members learned about the promise last year as they earned a new petal for each part of the promise. Each girl was given a copy of the Promise & Law and asked to learn them.)

In the circle, each Brownie told the others about the 5 things about themselves on their hand. (Leaders also explained to the Troop, that by tracing their hand, they were starting to earn their first TRY-IT.)
After Brownie Circle, the troop had snack; while listening to the The Brownie Story.
The girls learned that Brownies are "helpful elves."
The girls were then asked what it means to be helpful and several gave examples of how they have been helpful at home or at school.
After snack & storytime, the girls worked on tasks to complete their first TRY-IT.
They all enjoyed playing a game called "Body Volley" with balloons. Facing their partner they had to try to keep a balloon in the air using only the body part called out by a leader. For example, hands, elbow, knees, etc. Afterwards, the girls took turns calling out body parts while playing.
Following the Body Volley game, the girls learned about how their muscles work. Each girl was partnered with another Brownie. One girl kept her arms straight down by her side. While that girl tried to lift her arms up, her partner held her arms down. After counting to 20, the girls stopped holding their partner's arms and learned that muscles would continue to work on a process even after a process had stopped (The girls arms involuntarily were rising.)
Then, the Brownies had a discussion about how to take care of themselves. Some of the girls suggested eating healthy, exercising, brushing hair, brushing teeth, taking a shower etc. From there, the troop played a game of exercise. A leader would call out a type of exercise (galloping, hopping, frog jumping, crab crawling, etc) and the girls would do it. Later, the girls were asked to create their own type of exercise to call out. One example, was Jumping Jacks.
Finally, the girls returned to the Brownie Circle where we participated in a Friendship Circle and did the Friendship Squeeze. Just before the meeting ended, each girl was given her Brownie vest and several patches. (To learn where to put each patch, visit http://brownie2082.blogspot.com/2007/10/brownie-uniform.html)
Below are a few photos from our first meeting. We are putting a photo of each girl and her personalized handprint in a troop scrapbook.

Make New Friends -- Brownie Song

Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.

A circle is round,
it has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend.

BROWNIE SMILE SONG

I’ve got something in my pocket, it belongs across my face,
I keep it very close at hand, in a most convenient place.
I’m sure you couldn’t guess it, if you guessed a long, long while
So, I’ll take it out and put it on, it’s a great big brownie smile!
